Abstinence Education Initiative

Cooperative Agreement funded through the Division of Adolescent and School Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to assist Title V and other organizations that work to help young people avoid early sexual debut

In June 2000, IYD entered a five-year cooperative agreement with the Division of Adolescent and School Health (Cooperative Agreement #00026 “Strengthening the Capacity of Organizations Designed to Help Young People Avoid Early Sexual Debut and Coordinated School Health Programs to Prevent HIV Infection, STDs, and Unintended Pregnancy”). The overall program goal is to strengthen the capacity of national, state and local Title V organizations, enabling collaborative partnerships between them, and providing technical assistance and access to information to assist the further effectiveness of their efforts.

All resources appearing on this website which were developed under this agreement are identified by this icon.

Primary activities under this agreement include:

  • Development of an “Abstinence Educator’s Forum” website to assist Title V abstinence grantees and others working in the area of abstinence education
  • Abstinence education forums to provide information and collaborative opportunities for Title V grantees, youth-serving organizations and prevention specialists
